annoying dashboard squeek
Ok, im pretty new to this forum, but have been lookin over yalls posts for a good while. I have a 94 accord lx that I have been working on for the last few years, and is starting to look really good. I do lots of sound work, and have done a good amount of work to the body and the interior. However, despite how good it looks, it has this terrible noise like rubbing styrofoam coming from just above my inst cluster on the dash. Its worse when its cold, and its painfully annoying. I've heard other people have had this problem, but couldnt find any articles about it searchin the forum.... can anybody give me some help with this... thanks.
it sounds almost like rubbing two styrofoam pieces together and seems to be in sync with the car vibrating... it doesnt get any worse as I accelerate, but it is pretty loud....
does anyone else think it is anything aside from the spedo cable cable? ...I hadn't thought of that

My 98 accord just started doing that in two places. One sounds like it is coming from behind the gauges and the other behind the passenger airbag. It is driving me nuts too, I wish I could some how make it stop. I tried to find the noise but I had no luck.

What's that old saying...? I can't remember, but it's something like if it squeaks oil it....
Well anyway, I was just wondering if a protectant like armorall would help. Say if you were to spray it in the suspected area. I mean it can't hurt anything.

I found this on another site...
Noise From Passenger Side
of Dashboard: ’98–02 Accord
On ’98–02 Accords, if your customer complains of
hearing a ticking or creaking from the passenger
side of the dashboard, the hook-shaped
dashboard support bracket above the dashboard
support tube could be hitting the A-pillar. This
noise can be intermittent, temperature related, or
both.
To quiet this noise, remove the cover from the
passenger’s under-dash fuse/relay box, and look
up under the dashboard. If the support bracket is
hitting the A-pillar, use a long screwdriver
between the bracket and the body to bend the
bracket slightly so it clears the A-pillar.
This tip came to us from Andy Lee of Honda of
Serramonte in Colma, CA. Thanks, Andy.
