actually i believe there is already a product like that out. by adding that product to your vechicle you will lose one of your aux inputs on your stereo, basically if you use your ipod you will have to forfit your xm radio. but yea i'd take an ipod over xm anyday....

My Lexus RX330 also does the same. It tells you the radio station, the artists singing, the song title, and even the radio station quote ( NY's #1 for blah blah )

yup. gotta try burning a CD with CD text enabled, and with all the song titles and such available. i'm not sure where it gets the info from, and it's probably dependent on the burning software. if you're burning from MP3s it might read the ID3 tags, otherwise you might have to enter it manually. :dunno:

it's a feature of FM radio that some stations have started implementing. they just broadcast some data along with the audio transmission. the data won't come through as any audible sound through your radio, but if your radio supports it, it'll display whatever was sent. not all stations do it, and in my experience it doesn't always work for every song they play. it's not too bad, tho. i think they started doing that to "compete" with satellite radio somewhat. FM radio is so old already, and hasn't evolved at all over that last few decades. it's about time they offer something new

yep its called "HD" Radio. they over it on most new GM cars now, like my friends 2003 Sunfire. but yeah its too compete. sometimes it didnt always work right but it was cool. and it said the upcoming song about 30 seconds before it came on the radio. yeah only the big stations do it (most from Clear Channel) and some aftermarket CD players can do it. but then ud have to buy an "HD Tuner" for about $300.

Just to be clear the transmission of the data for song title and HD radio are different things. Most large markets transmit song data now, but you do need an HD tuner for HD radio.....how to check what you have....does AM radio sound crystal clear? If so you have HD radio else, you just get the song data via a radio able to recieve both the FM-AM signal and the new song data format. Last time I checked only Kenwodd had a true aftermarket HD tuner but it has been a while since I looked.

I personally love having Satellite radio in my cars....I can drive coast to coast on my presets. I don't care which service you have it's awesome get XM or get Sirius just get one, I can't say enough about them. For the amount of time I spend in the car 10-bucks per month is a sweat deal. I personally prefer the Sirius station format, but both services are awesome, if I had XM stock in my car I'd likely use it. But I had to retrofit my rides.

HD radio is great for signal clarity but does little to offer greater station diversity or commercial free music. If you only like top 40 music get HD and avoid the fees but I like to think my taste are more broad then classic rock and Britney Spears.
