Default 92 Accord: No Fan & No consistent Heat

First post & First time Honda owner.

My engine fan is not working even with the AC or Defrost turned on. Further, I only have heat at idle. When I start to drive the temp. gague drops to cool and there is no heat. When I stop the idle surges a little then evens out and the temp. gague begins to show warming.

The engine has never overheated. I left the radiator cap off tonight to burp the system. The blower motor works fine. At idle, the cooling system seems to flow well.

I am stumped. I will change the thermostat tomorrow but I don't think that is the problem. What controls the fan?

the thermostat is probably your problem, Fans dont always kickin till the engine gets to a certain temp. If the thermostat is bad then the engine will never stop coolin itself to let the temp build up, then the fan wont come on.

Had this problem last winter. Here's a link to that thread.

I found later that my fan doesn't even work anyway. I have been driving over a year with out a working cooling fan with no over heating problems what so ever. I live in florida where its 90+ in the summer in traffic. I figured if I've gone this long with out one. Why fix it. Honda put an oversized aluminum radiator in the 4g accords and the engine in mostly aluminum anyway.
