quick CARB question
In cali, is it legal to have an h22 swap in a 00 accord? Im asking this because the last year of the h22 was 99, and im seriously thinking about a engine swap. Ive heard that you can swap the same generation accord/prelude, but i just wanna get the facts straight.
hmm i think the last year of h22 is in 2000 cuz they stop making preludes at year 2000. so good luck finding a 2000 h22 engine and if u do, ur car will be legal. In order the car be legal by swapping it has to be the same year as ur car or up! Well good luck
Yeah, well i found h23 motors (DOHC, and 225 hp) for 3000 shipped, so i think im just gonna get one of those instead. I think h23's were in 98-03 JDM type R accords, but im not sure if they have manual or auto transmissions.
are you talking about the h23a dohc vtec? i think they were manufactured from 98-03 and were in the euro or jdm wagons and all of the ones ive read about were auto. not very many ppl have that motor.
even if its the same year or newer than your car its still not a usdm motor so your gonna have to pay under the table to pass smog and never let BAR know about the swap (like how everyone else in cali does it) or try and go through the BAR ref and get shot down like everyone who has tried to get through the ref.
i dont have a 6th gen but last time i read no one still hasnt made any mounts for the h22 6th gen swap.

The reason that the 6th gen swap's can't be BAR certified is not because of the motor its because of the ECU all the P5M's have the immbolizer built in to them not allowing us to use the 97+ prelude ECU. I have this same problem with my 97 accord, I have been trying to figure out how to make the 96 prelude ECU work since it is the only OBD2 ecu without the immbolizer built in. And you can not use the JDM ecu since when they plug in the scan tool it won't look fro the correct US sensors.

well, it is best to have the same liter as the original engine. but there isnt really a way to pass a USDM h22 engine w/o goign into a ref station. JDM engines....forget it.
unless you pay the guy off, of course. (150-200 bucks)

And what kinda car gen/engine swap you got?

The motor is not the problem its the ECU. I'm sure the H23 from the Euro R accord has the immbolizer built in as well. That is the biggest problem on trying to pass the 97+ accord swaps.
Also to whoever said its about the liters your wrong and plus most prelude swaps are the H22 and the accord motor is an F22 so that's the same liter amount. Plus the fact that the smog limits for the 2 engines is not that big a difference. I passed my 98 prelude motor under my accord limits.
And also you can pass a JDM motor is cali it just has to have all the correct US smog parts put on the car as well as a US ecu. Check around honda-tech there are a shit lot of civics that are running OBD1 JDM motors that are smog legal.

BTW my setup is 97 accord, 98 H22 US spec, 96 P13
