Default New Honda owner

Hi guys, I just bought a 1988 honda accord LX, looks almost brand new inside and out besides some paint damage on the roof by the passengers side.

has 242,700 miles on it

Was just curious if there is anything in particular i should know about this vehicle?

It's a 5 speed, and EVERYTHING still works, besides one thing. How the heck do you move the steering wheel lower, its set up so high, and theres only one knob you can pull out towards you by the steering wheel but it does nothing... the car is mint, not a SINGLE dent! Interior is perfect! Though the car came with stock rims, with hubcaps, all stock, except a really ricey muffler which i want removed.

I'm really not a Honda enthusiast, dad owns a 2000 civic dx, and its really not fun to drive, power steering is really strong, cant feel the road, gas pedal is stiff, seats are hard and not comfortable at all, though if this accord can get me to work, kudos to it.

Ive recently owned the following:

1987 Toyota MR2 MK1 (rod knock)
1987 Toyota MR2 MK1 (rod knock, then engine blew up)
1992 Ford Taurus 3.8 v6 (Head gasket blew last week, sold it - only owned it for 1 week)
1988 Honda Accord LX (still purring)

well, thanks!

well, welcome. im guessing that the wheel has not been moved for years, so just tug on it lol. when the knob is in its out position, just push the wheel down.

i remember the first time i drove the honda, i couldnt get my key out of the ignition and realized you have to push in...

Whassup? Welcome to HAN.
I think you'll learn a new respect for your accord as soon as you get used to it. Get some better tires and maybe some rims, and it'll have a lot more feel in the steering wheel.
Actually I would suggest an intake to start with. That'll make her a lot happier.

I have an 88 Accord with 265K myself and the way you adjust the wheel is directly under the wheel column just pull the lever down then push the lever out and it will adjust

:lmao:

You'll love it, as long as it's been maintained well. If you do routine and preventative maintenance every month, she'll run forever.

I can think of other makes that are known for thier lack of feeling in the steering.
I'm just saying that if you think it's too easy to steer now, get some low profiles on it and that will fix your problem there.
And if you dont want to do anything else to it then oh well, it's your loss.

well im more hinting at steering like a mr2, mid engine with no power steering, feels like a go kart, still easy to steer but you feel like one with the road, i miss it, its wierd being able too do a u-turn with 1 finger only right now, lol...

but this car feels better than my dads 2000 civic i can say, prolly because its manual

Um, yeah, you wont get that with an 88 Accord lol.

If you want the steering to feel more connected, then stickier and wider tires will help (unless that is ricey to you )

Check out www.3geez.com for all the info on the 3rd gen Accord.
