Default door ajar of 97 accord sedan

For some reason our passenger door of our 97 sedan will not close all the way. It has not been in any accidents at all. It does latch so there is no cause for it to come open while driving. The door ajar light will flicker while we drive. I can push it closed tight but it juts out a little in free state. I want to sell the car later this year so it is something that needs to be fixed and I do not want to go to the dealer if I can avoid it...thanks ahead for any help out there

Hey this happened to me on my 94 4dr as well. it was my drivers door tho. It would latch, but the little black button on the edge of the door would not be fully press in, to make the courtesy lights and the door ajar red light on the dash turn off. Sometimes, it would fturn on when i went around a tight corner, but then turn back off to normal after i made the turn. So i took it to the Honda Delearship, and they moved the metal latch about half an inch or less closer to the door. Never had any problems since

Hope this helps

Metal latch? My '92 coupe does the same thing... But I am figuring it is happening because my legs are long, and my left leg is usually braced on the door - pushing on the door as a turn a corner causing the dome light to come on.
Any chance you can post a pic of what you are talking about, or describe it a little better? I just got the door "sensor" replaced a year ago... Maybe it wasn't put in correctly...

That happened to me to. the dome light went on during a corner. but sometimes when i shut it it wouldnt close. by metal latch i mean the hinge, on the inside of the door jam. the metal thing. its looks like a upside down "U" or an "n"

i just had it moved farther away from the inside of the car, closer to the door, so the door would latch a little sooner. and now it closes perfect everytime.

Thanks for all the replies..I think this last one is my answer. Where did you take it to get moved? Was it the dealer or just a garage? I looked at that myself but it does not look like I can move it myself...there is not enuf space to do that....if it could just be moved a 1/4 of an inch out that would be perfect....thanks again

I took it to the delear. i think they may have moved it further in. i cant remember. it was only a little move tho. but it was either farther out, or further in. either way whichever way they moved it it worked.

I have the same problem with my passanger door! I looked at it once up close, opening and closing, but could never figure out why. My problem is cornering, the dome light comes on, and the dashboard indicator light as well. I have a 94 4dr. I will look at this next time I get a chance.
