F22 tranny
Whats up guy's. Got a couple questions. I have a 91 accord dx 5 speed as my daily driver. And today I was messing around and powershifted into 3rd at like 2000 rpm to bark the tires for a laugh with a buddy. When I did, it made a loud pop, and then this horrible rattle. Then when I stopped the car, the noise stopped. Well I put it back in first to see if it would take off and it did. I ended up having all gears except 3rd, but no matter if I was in nuetral or any gear when rolling it made this awful rattling noise. It sounds like its going into gear when I try 3rd, but nothing happens at all. Do you think maybe I broke the input shaft ring? Or do you guys have any idea what it could be? I plan to just buy a tranny from a junkyard for cheap. Hopefully a couple hundred bucks. How much are they going for with about 100k on them? I"d rather not put any more than I have to into it. I have a 95 Trans am that I'd rather be making go quicker rather than trying to keep this accord on the road (which isn't hard at all really, just this instance. Otherwise its a great little reliable car).
"to bark the tires for a laugh with a buddy"
Did he laugh after you heard all those metal parts being broken?
I wouldnt of power shifted to show off. see what happens.
Powershifting isnt a good thing to do anyway.
If it was there wouldnt be a clutch.
you've probably got a busteed shift linkage.

To be honest we laughed harder when we heard the thing break after a long hooolllly shit from the both of us. I wasn't showing off, if I was gonna show off I'd get in my 6 speed LT1 with a spec II and powershift the shit out of it like I do everytime I drive it hard all while planting my passengers gut in the back seat. A T56 on the other hand can handle it. I did it because it was funny to think about what I was driving and what people must think when they see a lil econo car barking 3rd gear. Even though it is easier since its FWD. I had done it a couple times before just messing with people and we'd always end up getting a laugh out of it. Though this time I learned my lesson, no more dicking off in the accord, it doesn't like it. And what do you mean "Power shifting is bad because if it weren't there'd be no clutch". You still need a clutch whether you powershift or not because you still have to exchange gears and a clutch recieving power from the flywheel is the only way to do that lol. All powershifting is doing is keeping the revs up and engaging and exchanging quicker. And yes it does tear the piss out of a tranny that can't handle it. I didn't know the 5 speeds in those accords are that pathetic though. I've seriously honest to god made close to a hundred passes on my T56 and I powershifted every last one of them. And never had a problem other than the clutch. Which is why I upgraded to the spec.
Lets compare trannys of a new sports car that was built to be thrased to a stock family sedan thats 10 years older. Which one do you think will break
Stupid domestic owners. Come back and let us know if your 91 escort will do it.

".yet you modify one yourself correct?? and you're calling us stupid

Looks like I don't have to get back too you on that one now do I?

On a bottom note, thanks for the help
. I came in looking for help but instead got critisized for driving my accord "rough", by a couple guy's that from my impression do it all the time. I thought thats what tuners do? And from all the header and motor performance questions I see here. I'd say im not the only one that has banged a gear hard in an accord. Maybe its cause I drive a domestic as my performance car and my accord is the econo car im not supposed to drive it hard or im a dumb ass???? hmmmm fancy that.Oh yeah, and that accord is only 4 years older than my TA not 10
I also have a 92 accord lx that i drive at a dirt track and do it with it to, U must have just hit it at the wrong time and 3rd gear came apart, will it go in 4th from second ????? if so u just trashed 3rd gear, may be cheaper to get the trans fixed than finding a used one, just a thought though, good luck

yeah, it goes into 4th from second. I honestly think I destroyed the input shaft ring for third gear. Yeah im kinda wondering if it'd be cheaper to just rebuild. Do you know how much a used trans goes for?? And maybe if you have an idea on third gear rebuild cost's?? Im kinda clueless man cause I haven't really had experience with fwd parts so I don't know what kinda prices and where to get them. Any help would be appreciated. Yeah I know it was my fault, the car is a good little reliable sob. I definatly wanna keep it around. I just didn't expect it to give way that easily I guess. Lesson learned though lol.
You mean like F22 to H22 swap? Its cool and all I have a buddy with a turbo prelude that has an H22 in it, and they are badass little motors, but its not my thing. My interest is in the RWD V8 platform. Prefferably Fbodies. I can't stand mustangs. I'd build that accord for sure over a mustang. Its just not particularly my thing. If I see an H22 I respect it, because it is definatly a badass little motor. Just I'll probably never own one.
