No matter how much it costs, its just a car. Do you think your father thought that keeping his cars clean was more important that spending time with you? You obviously idolize the guy, so I doubt it.

As for "tired bullshit," here's something that you've probably heard a lot in your life: not everybody cares about what you care about. Welcome to the world.

 

When it comes to something beyond my control like a traffic accident, then I am in full agreement with you that a car is "just a car" and I'd care nothing about the damage incurred as long as no person was injured. But when it comes to something that I CAN control, such as maintaining something that costs the better part of a year's salary for most people, I was brought up to take good care of that something. Just a question, when does something become expensive enough that a person should put some time and effort into upkeep? Should people just let their homes and yards look like crap because at the end of the day, it's "just a house?" I choose to think that the way a person's house and car look is one outward sign of what kind of person they really are, much like the way a person's dress and grooming can indicate certain things about them. Well, I'm really tired of trying to make a point to those who obviously don't get it or don't agree. If there are people out there who like to spend their hard-earned 20 grand on something and then treat it like crap (and there are indeed plenty of them everywhere you look), then who am I to tell them what to do? Go nuts, don't EVER wash your frickin car, what the hell do I care? In fact, I realize that people like myself are actually in the minority on this issue given what I see on the streets every day, so maybe I'M the wacky one here. :thinking:

And you were dead-on about my dad. The cars never came before his family, but he did great stuff like incorporating it into spending time with me and my sister. We'd wash them together on weekends, spray each other with the hose, splash suds on each other...you know, make it fun. It doesn't always HAVE to be a chore, and I think it taught us both to value things that don't come cheap...

 

Some people just seem to think the world revolves around them. Everyone doesn't see the world the same as you warren. Get over it......we're not all here to be like you......don't expect us to. And by the way, your dad's life isn't an exact carbon copy of mine or anyone elses either. What he was or wasn't able to do depends on an infinate number of things that are different for everyone. Why you have this overwhelming desire to insult others because they don't want to think the same as you is beyond me. Guess the first sentance says it all...
