Sirius Satellite in 2004 Accord
Howdy folks,
I'm new here and couldnt find any info on something I'm trying to do. I hear that there is an adaptor kit that will allow you to switch your XM satellite radio over to Sirius without having to change head units. Does anyone know anything about this??? Thanks in advance!

It would seam unlikely since the signals come from different Satellites and require different tuners. The '03 FM modulator units installed by the dealer may have been able to wire in a Sirius tuner and use the XM antenna and run them through the XM controller, maybe?
I have a Kenwood Sirius controller in my sunglass holder of my 2000 Accord and the antenna is on the rear shelf.
If you really want Sirius you may be able to use parts of the '03 XM retro fit kit and use a Panasonic or Pioneer Sirius controller if they fit in the cubby area and place the sirius tuner in the trunk. You may be able to locate the Sirius antenna just the same way as the '03 cars as well near the rear speaker in the car.
But using the XM tuner to interpret the Sirius codex seams unlikely.

Ok, XM and Sirius do not share components... so the tuner and antenna would not work at all for sirius... they work on different frequencies and slightly different systems... plus the antennas are configured to recieve the signals in different ways....... so for the antenna, you could probably swap the guts of a sirius antenna into the stock XM antenna housing and run the new cable to the new tuner you would need. As far as changing the tuner and retaining the stock controls, thats kind of a hit-and-miss..... they do use a seperate tuner unit.... but as far as getting the OEM deck to control a sirius tuner, who knows.
Now that that is somewhat covered.... why do you want sirius instead of XM? just curious..... its probably not worth the extra hassle and expense... as you'd have to buy the new tuner and antenna... plus whatever would be needed to make it work... then sirius is like $14 a month, and XM is $10.

I have Sirius with a 1 year commitment it's also $10bucks just like XM. My wife and sister are added to my account for $6 bucks per month as well.
I went with Sirius because I prefer its Dance genre better. But your choice in service should be over format you like not what someone says is better. Both services are awesome IMO.
If I had a car with XM standard I would use it, and vice versa. My Accord didn't have either so I chose Sirius.
I do know for a fact some Sirius and XM users have swapped antennas and vice versa the antennas are near identical, but the tuners boxes are different. Rumor has it, Alpine is going to have a dual XM-Sirius tuner one day. Who knows?

Thats right, sirius dropped their price... it did used to be $14 a month, and people that origionally paid for a full year of service at that price, are shit out of luck. The antennas look identical, mostly because a few select companies make them, but the internals are different. Also, some tuners use a single output antenna, and some use a dual output antenna. As far as the tuners go, XM is making all of their tuners now... no more alpine or sony, etc. tuners for XM radio. You'll be buying a XM brand tuner and need to use an interface to make it work with your aftermarket deck, so I dont see alpine making a dual tuner, especially because they are XM people, not sirius.
Im not dissing either company, I just thought Sirius was still more expensive per month, so that would persuade me to go with the cheaper one, but I guess thats not an issue anymore.

Sirius has a hand in all it's tuners as well I think. All tuners may be made by a single mfg. and just sold under various names. With respect to each company/provider.
I know Alpine has a HU with an XM tuner in it, rumors have been circulating that in the Aftermarket several companies are sappose to be working on dual type tuners.
Will it happen, hard too say. I know several satellite diehards have setups in their car running headunit and plug and play combos so they can have 200 channels in the car.
When I originally got sirius at $14 per month it was commercial free and XM wasn't so it was worth 3bucks a month to be commercial free to me. Know, both are commercial free and about the same price so content should really be the way to go.

This is a quick shot, but the sun is just behind me as I'm taking this picture so it's more illuminate of the interior than usual.
