Default 96 accord ex vtec swap help???

I was wondering if anyone can help me with some questions that i have. I swapped a 96 accord ex vtec engine into my 90 accord and i used my wiring harness and distributor and my 90 ecu on the 96 engine. Now after everything is hooked up i have a knocking noise coming from my engine and i know that my knock sensor is NOT hooked up...is that the knocking that i am hearing? if so what do i have to do to fix this problem? do i have to have a 96 ecu in there or can i run my 90 ecu with a knock sensor? Another problem that im having is my rpm's will go up to 4500 and then it will cut out and i cant go any higher then 4500 rpm's what is the problem with this? is this the knock sensor as well? Please someone help me with this...??? Thanks!

well in order to run a ex motor you gotta have the right ecu for it with the vtec so it will enguage and you need to hok up the knock sensor so it does not knock you gotta run all the right stuff for the right motor when i was doing my VAFC i was not able to go past 3200 but mine is an auto but i am guessing your's is a 5 speed so get the 96 ecu and hook up the knock sensor

well since your ecu does not have a vtec siginal you gotta run one with one it makes perfect sense and you are running a OBD-2 motor on a OBD-1 ecu get the 96 ex ecu and hook up the rest of the wires
