No offense BUT have you gotten one lately?! If so, name the place. It's gotten unbelievably hard in CA. Coming from a rotary background (hence the name), and having to need ~helping hands~ to pass smog, i can unequivocally say that smog check shops in the LA/OC basin don't do them unless your 1) a blood relative/ or 2) in the parts/hi-performance biz (like a real tuning shop). I don't care if your in Inglewood, Bolsa, K-Town or East Los....it's the same all around.

and to pau. the exhaust components such as intake, header, manifold and what else? thank you sir.
it's true about the motor being as new or newer than the year of the chassis, but i don't think you can swap a jdm motor into your car...it has no usdm vin number. when swapping you can't help but to think of theft, so the origin of the motor will be a key issue.
ok....My best friend's bro is a state ref in northern cali. He told me that for a while, they couldn't pass JDM motors even if they burned clean. The reason being that some ref in so cali was passing all these honda's illegally. he told me that he got the "OK" to pass JDM motors again...just as long as the emissions, vacume lines, and all that other crap is the same specs as a USDM motor. Yes, the engine has to be the same year or newer than the car but i think that depends on the ref who tests your car. He told me that they can't determine the year on JDM motors so you can lie about what year the motor was...just as long as all the emissions crap is correct and the car burns clean.

the last time I needed one, I recall the best time to go was when it was raining. It was easier to 'hit-them-up'...at least at the smaller places. It is (obviously) cause business is down on those days... Take that for what its worth.
