Default Car wont start?

Im tryin to help out this girl at work. I will give u the rundown of what happened to her 1996 Accord.

She was driving to work today and said that her CD player kept cuttin in and out on her, but that was the only thing wierd she noticed. Today at lunch her car wont start. I go out there to see if maybe it is somthin simple i might find. She just got a new battery so i checked the cables and they are tight, I checked a few fuses (that i could get to) and they werent blown. When i got in her car to start it up, it doesnt turn over at all. When i first put the key in, it beeps because the door is open and the light on the botton of the door is on, i then clicked the key to the second position and everything stays the same. When i turn the key to the 3rd position (right before u would start it) the car stops beeping, the lights on her dash start to cradually come on but they flicker and never come on as bright as they should and the light on the bottom of the door is just barly on. For some reason it isnt getting power or electricity when the key goes to the third position.

Im guessing this is some kind of electrical problem? Maybe the altinator? Im not very sure. If u guys could kindly give some advise on what u might think this is i would appreciate it and hopefully we can get her car started so she can drive it to get it fixed instead of calling a tow truck.

Thanks

Could also be the ignition switch or the distributor too if her cd player cut off. Could also be the alternator since no power is getting the battery for the car to even crank.

My first guess is alternator. Those are the symptoms I've had before on cars that needed new alternators.

Thanks for the replies guys.....so i take it there isnt an easy fix so she can drive it to a mechanic.

It looks like she will be calling the tow truck.

Well I think that I read on another thread on this site that if it is the alternator a temporary fix to get the car started to get it to a mechanic was to hit the alternator with the club bar while trying to start it. I forget which thread that was on, but people claimed that it worked. Never tried it before...

He's right I tried that also but, you need to hit the starter with the club .

The alternator does not do a damn thing until the car has been started. It is not responsible for sending juice to the battery and the rest of the electrical system until AFTER the engine is running.

try jump starting the car
its a dead battery
if the car doesnt wanna start after running for about 20 mins then the alternator is bad
