I just noticed this the other day. The clutch pedal is sticking and not quite releasing as smoothly as it did last week. Just does it for the first inch of foot travel when releasing the pedal. The clutch does NOT slip at all - catches perfectly with no slippage - so I know it seems pedal related. I have a full resevior of clutch fluid as well.

Is there a way I can lube up the pedal or do you think it's something else.

There is a return spring I believe.

But it may also be your pressure plate, my clutch is kinda stiff, dealer informed me it is a wearing pressure plate.

In addition some 99 and 98 manuals had a TSB for sticking master cylinder bores.

 

Where is the return spring located? If it is the spring, what kind of maintenance is possible for me to do?

Driving to work this morning the pedal didn't stick at all, I'll keep an eye on it tonight.

If you didn't have it today I'm inclined to believe it is the pressure plate.

Ex. My car's clutch gets notchy and makes squeek after long hard driving sessions, or trips home from work in the summer heat.

As my plate gets hot the fingers stick on the throwout bearing a bit, it's fine for now but I will need a new plate and likely a disc one day in the future.

My plate was prematurely worn by a bad throwout bearing, this is why I'm having signs of an ailing plate at 55k mi.

Once my car cools over night, it's gone the next day.

 

You know I was wondering about that - I think I'm having the throwout bearing problem as well - I have that squeek as well. How quickly did it wear out your plate?

 

I still have the squeak, I've had if or going on 2 summers now :P

My throwout bearing went at 10k and sounded like a bad fan belt when it was going.

My pressure plate makes the squeak, I'm just going to drive on it until the clutch won't work, the car drives fine--it just makes the noise after long use--so as long as it works I'm not dumping money into a new clutch kit, once it's time I'll put in a stage 1 clutch and new flywheel too.

 

Thought I had the same problem recently-turns out my floor mat was catching the pedal.

 

:-) Trust me I checked the mat - because it does slide around a bit.
