Default 17" wheels....tire sizes???

Can someone tell me if I can fit 225/40-45/17 tires on my 17 x 7 wheels? Right now i have 215/45/17's on them but one of my friends has a set of tires he'll sell me if i can fit them. The offset is 40, whatever that means. I have a 1991 honda accord, and wonder if they will rub or fit correctly. thanks all.

Sure they'll fit on the wheels, but you may experience some rubbing since the 225s are wider than the 215s. The different tire size may also affect your speedometer.

Offset deals with wheels, not tires... maybe he was confused.

a 225/40-17 will be roughly the same size as a 215/45-17, just slightly taller. a 225/45-17 will be taller and slightly thinner compared to the 40 series.

Both should work just fine... although you may run into more rubbing issues with the 225/45-17 tires.

I'd be worried about offset of 40mm on an Accord.

www.Tirerack.com has excellent FAQ's on Tires and rims, give it a try.

Somewhere we have discussed this in other threads too I think?
