I seem to have converted another one. My bestfriend has decided to buy a 1996 Accord Coupe LX with a 4 cylinder. I am not sure, but I believe it has the 130 HP since it is a LX model. He is already looking to upgrade the performance and I was wanting to know what there is to do that engine what will raise the horsepower. If possible, include stats and any pertinent advice that will help. Let's make him glad he bought an Accord........I know I am.

Don't expect anything big with just regular bolt-ons. The F22 on that LX produces around 130HP and 144ft/lb of torque. The best thing you should do is FI (Forced Induction; i.e. Turbo) or an engine swap (i.e. H22A) By the way, is the car manual? That would make his car a little quicker than the automatic 5th Gens.

If you really want to go with basic bolt-ons, here are some things that you can do.

Intake (Cold Air or Short Ram)
Header (a decent one atleast)
Exhaust (please, no fart mufflers...I'm talking about a COMPLETE catback)

altogether they should give you around 10-15HP, give or take. Like I said, don't expect any huge HP gains.

 

it's got 139ft lb tq... go with an AEM V2 CAI, DC sports 4-2-1 header, high flow cat, GReddy EVO cat back, or Apexi N1, UR pullies, AEM cam gear, sun auto hyperground system, those'll give u some noticible gains.... generally speaking the I/H/E combo doesn't give u as much as u might expect, BUT, u will get more if u pick the right parts...for example, if you get a Megan CAI vs an AEM V2, u're gonna get more power with the V2...make sure you get the right CAI, catback, etc....on my 6th gen i'm runnin DC 4-2-1 header, AEM V2, GReddy EVO catback, UR pullies and AEM cam gear along with tons more shit are on the way, but just with the mods i have now i notice a big difference in power....good luck, peacE

AMEN...should've made THAT my first mod. I/H/E combo is a good way to start engine-wise though.

 

Yeah, it's a manual. And yeah, I agree that the suspension should be the first thing he upgrades.....especially since the engine already has 160k on it. I think he will get better results from an engine swap, but until he can get the green for that. Suspension upgrades will be a better investment in the longrun. Thanks guy, you have been a big help!
