Don't expect anything big with just regular bolt-ons. The F22 on that LX produces around 130HP and 144ft/lb of torque. The best thing you should do is FI (Forced Induction; i.e. Turbo) or an engine swap (i.e. H22A) By the way, is the car manual? That would make his car a little quicker than the automatic 5th Gens.
If you really want to go with basic bolt-ons, here are some things that you can do.
Intake (Cold Air or Short Ram)
Header (a decent one atleast)
Exhaust (please, no fart mufflers...I'm talking about a COMPLETE catback)
altogether they should give you around 10-15HP, give or take. Like I said, don't expect any huge HP gains.
