Default anyone with 1996 accord...need obdII help pls

hi, this is a question of my co-workers. he has a 96 accord everyday grinder. he just got a code the other day. now in my sheltered life of obdI i've no clue with obdII. are code readers the only way to pull a code? or are there tricks of the trade? if a reader is the only way, is there a cheap yet functional one out there? we're located in philadelphia pa.

also, does pulling any fuses or disconnecting the battery for any length of time clear codes as it does with obdI?

thanks in advance.

ok, with my prelude, the dtc 2p connector is behind the radio. is this the same location for the 96 accord?

just curious, are the obdII readers are such for 97 and up hondas?

Odd...on my 94 its right behind the glove box on a drop down connector....blue in color. I just use a piece of speaker wire to jump the connection and turn the key to the on position and count sequences of flashes where the CEL is.

I don't have a '96, but around here AutoZone will plug in their OBD-II reader for free. Get them to tell you the code #, not just their description of the problem...

Disconnecting the battery will clear the code. Or you can pull the ECU backup (or whatever it's called) fuse.
