Default Occasional Starting Problem

I have a 91 Honda Accord Ex 2dr Auto with about 180,000 on it that i bought last summer. The only modifications i have done is Short Ram intake and Sound System along with replacing all the Belts, Timing Belts, CV Axles and in the process of rebuilding the front suspension (upper control arms/ball joints,Lower control arm bushings and sway bar links)My problem is once and a while when i shut the car off the try to start it right after (like putting in gas) it will turn over but not fire and keep turning. i have found if i put it in neutral and push it like a foot then hit the brakes enough to stop it quick it will start just fine. anyone know whats causing this because its pretty embarrasing when it happens. This happens very rarely but it sucks none the less. I thought maybe its a clogged fuel filter or faulty fuel pressure regulator. Any suggestions or info will help.

Sounds like your flywheel isnt grabbing. I used to have that problem on my 87 camry, which I donated. It sounds like a long grind when you try to start it.....

A classic case of the main fuel pump relay is bad. Inside the relay module are 2 relays, a few diodes and a printed circuit board. The solder joints crack with age and temperature cycling. Quite common on 1990-1993 Accords.

You can change out the relay yourself in about 30 minutes. Relay costs about $55 at the delearship, less if you can find it on line. EVERY Honda dealership knows all about this problem, but it is so easy to fix if you know the secret.
