Default Looking at Buying a 5th Generation Accord

Looking to buy a 1996 or 1997 5th gen Accord in November (preferably EX Coupe). I have a 1999 Accord LX now in addition to my Vigor...the Accord is being sold...I was curious if there was any weak points in the car that I should look for before buying (common problems).

I'm looking forward towards shopping.

Maybe any other tidbits of advice you can offer would be cool too.

not necessarily a problem.......but windows are really slowwwwwwww to roll up or down...especially up....and the ac/heat doesnt seem to blow as hard as it should....those are just two common things that most 5th gen owners share with me...as far as problems...i have had ZERO! i love my 97 ex. heavy as all accords are, i still love it.

My buddy's 1994 EX Coupe has both those problems. No big deal I suppose. And it may be heavy, but it's featherweight compared to my 6th gen.

Honda power windows are notorious for developing track problems or slow roll up and down. It can be managed and even avoided with a little attention paid before it gets too bad.

Power antannaes and Honda also do not mix well from the factory as they tend to blow the motor out...swap it with a good aftermarket power antannae or even shave it and go with a strip antannae.

Trunk seals are something you will want to pay attention to also. Because of the design of the trunk many people end up sliding objects across them causing them to break down...easy fix with a replacement strip.

Sunroof...make sure you clean the drain hose to the sunroof as they are known for getting backed up and can cause rust from stagnant water or possible leaks from the sunroof over time.

As for tranny issues we all know the automatic tranny curse with Accords whether it is a V6 or an I4 but if you aren't trying to race it there should be minimal if any issues there.

Engine..well its an F22 so its not a powerhouse motor but they are solid and do quite well in the long haul.

Cruise control..as long as your speedo is in adjustment there is minimal worries with this at all. On my 4th gen I have cruise control (same as 5th gen setup) and I have only had one issue because of water seepage into the car causing a fuse to blow out (my fault).

5th gens are notoriously reliable cars which aside from the styling is one of the biggest reasons they are so sought after....nothing like a big body Accord

Take a little silicon and run it on the inside of the track and it should fix it make sure you don't get any on the window itself though...nothing major just greassy looking.
