$2k for the navigation system
Hey folks,
This is my first time here and I perused some of the forum threads and found the information and impressions most useful - thanks!
I test drove a new TSX a few days ago and I'm contemplating buying a new one soon. I was wondering about whether (or not) to get the navigation system. My thinking is that its a nice toy but I'm not sure if its really worth the extra $2k. I've also heard rumours of it being rather buggy.
That being said, I wonder if its another case of the TiVo syndrome - where you think its not "that useful" when you don't have one, but can't do without it once you get it.
Thanks,
-Rushabh

My view on the Navi is this: If you travel outside of your county more than once every 2 weeks, get it. It's extremely useful. My dad constantly has to go to different states for his job, and one of the main reasons why he wants a TSX instead of a TL is because he can't afford the TL and the Navi. All you have to do is play with the navi for 10 minutes in a demo car and you'll understand why it's so vital to travelers...not only will you be able to easily find local ATM's, restaurants and other points of interest, but you'll never get lost. It'd also be awesome for road trips or when you just decide to take a trip to nowhere just to drive the car, then when you get sick of it you can turn on the navi and have it take you home.
I would kill for a factory Navi system in my Accord...and the Honda navigation system is not buggy at all. Unlike airport rental systems, it won't mysteriously put you in a different state all of a sudden because a cloud passes overhead or not show the road you're on. The Honda system is regarded as perhaps the best in the industry. But ultimately, whether or not it's "worth it" is all up to you...$2000 is a lot, but the wow factor and the convenience of it makes it more than worth it to many.

I am kind of considering a TSX. Is $2000 worth it for the navigation system or would it be wiser to get a mobile Garmin Street Pilot for under $1000 or a Garmin Ique (palm pilot and nagivation system) 3600 for $540? Please let me know of your opinions on this. Is there anything that the factory navigation system has over the mobile ones? Thanks.

Why you would want to cheap out on this is beyong me. The factory navi has much better resale value, many more features, voice activation, a HUGE screen, and it looks cool unlike an tacky add on navi system.
The TSX navigation system will give you voice control over the climate control and stereo, in addition to the regular functions. It is very trick and I've never discovered any bugs. If you can afford 2k more get it. When you go to sell the car the navigation won't add much value, however.
I think the Acura navigation systems are the best on the market and, because it's OEM, you don't have something sitting on your dash or whatever.

The TSX Navi is great. But from a resale perspective, 3 or 5 years down the road, it won't add much value to your car. The reason is technologies like Navi will be out-of-date by then. Sort of like last year's computer.
