Default Shaking while idling?

My '96 Accord LX recently started shaking a lot while idling. This didn't used to happen. What could be causing this?

I had this problem with my 94 Accord LX. It would shake at idle but was smooth at anything above. It turned out to be the rear motor mount which cost me 300.00 to replace at the dealer.

Auto tran or manual? I think the vacuum-controlled rear mounts are only on auto trans cars. I know that's the case for '98, not sure for 5th-gen.

either way, if it's shaking quite a bit, you may want to check your motor mounts.. they're not that hard to replace yourself

For the '98 vacuum-controlled mount, it's more than just inspecting it. Maybe '96 is similar?

There's a vacuum valve on the firewall, with a hose going down to the mount. Get the car warmed up good, have someone sit inside. Engine running, hold the brake, idling IN GEAR (D or R). Unplug the wiring to that valve, it's supposed to get much rougher when you unplug it. If there's no difference then something doesn't work. You could try a MityVac on the mount, if it works that way, then the problem must be electrical. If the MityVac doesn't work then the mount is busted.

my car also does the same thing at idle. it idles around 450-500 rpms and sometimes it idles at 600-650 rpms and its smooth. can it be a fuel filter or idle need to be set?

Of course it'll be rough if it's idling as slow as 450... Especially if that's an automatic, in gear. Probably not the fuel filter, because when it's idling is when it needs the least amount of fuel.

Tune-up!! Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, adjust spark timing, run a bottle of Techron or something like that. Check/clean your throttle body - is it all full of black crud? Then adjust your idle. Then tell us if it's still shaking.
