Hello,

I have a 1999 Accord with a temp. control system -

When I get into the car in the winter and the temp is set to a warmer temperature, and I leave the fan on 'auto', it immediately starts blowing cold air WITHOUT waiting for the heat to come.

In my wife's Sienna van, the fan speed waits until there is heat. Our 96 Jeep Cherokee did the same thing - the fan did not turn onto high until there was heat.

Is this how a Honda is supposed to work, or is there a problem?

This is normal.

 

Yeah, the Honda auto climate system isn't as intelligent as your wife's Sienna to do that. Whenever you turn on the heat and you haven't turned on the heat earlier, you'll get cold air coming out first. So ideally, the Honda auto climate system should wait to get warmed up first, but it doesn't.

 

I don't think that's true. In my 6th gen as well as my 7th gen, the heat would/will always wait until the engine is a bit warmed up before coming on .. The other thing I noticed (with the 7th gen, not the 6th), is that before the engine is completely warmed up, it will blow most of the air full blast out of the defrost vents .. then once it gets really warmed up, it switches to the floor vents .. Just an interesting tidbit.
