PS2 in car
hey have any of you guys that have ps2 in your cars have problems with it? .. like with heat or cold or any other problems .. mine is under my seat and no prob so far but any heard of problems?
i used to have one in my show car, it was placed under the glove box.. i at times think that if i ran the ac to much the system could get cold.. some say so what. but i noticed when i pulled out games and cd's they kinda have the foggy look, like condenstation on them.. so i moved it.. but no real problems at all
A PS2 was not built for the automotive environment. Electronics that WERE made for it usually have sealed PC boards to prevent corrosion. The PS2 will get condensation inside, and that will lead to problems. The manual for the PS2 will tell you its appropriate operating temperatures, and probably warns against storing it in very cold or hot conditions. Keep in mind how cold it can get at night, or hot during the day in the car.
I suggest mounting it, or placing it, so it can be easily removed and taken inside with you at night... they are not built to handle the automotive environment.

any angle you tilt your ps2 at besides completely horizontal or vertical will damage the laser track. (it's the thin sheet of metal the laser glides on)
if you ever had a buddy with a PS1 and needed to turn it upside down to play, he'll know what i'm talking about.
any sort of strange mounting position or excessive heat will warp the track.
