my heat doesn't work
i'm sure its not the cable, because i've had the dash apart before and seen that it actually turns all of the way because last winter the heat only got to lukewarm, now its just always cold, so it seems the heater core or thermostat or whatever has just worn down, do I need to take it to a shop to figure out what it is or are there some easy things to check myself?
Since you've taken your dash apart, you can probably handle this. What you (or the shop) should check is whether the heater core is all full of crud which prevents hot water from flowing through. Also the water valve on the heater hose might be crudded up too.
It might be as simple as the inside of a heater hose collapsing & blocking the flow. If so you'll want to replace most or all of your hoses. You don't want that to happen to one of the big radiator hoses.
Depending on how bad it is, you can use something like Prestone SuperFlush or maybe you'll have to replace the heater core or the valve. If the heater core is that bad, then your radiator & engine might be the same way??

ok, so much for me being sure about it not bein the cable...i tore apart the dash tonight and took out the temperature control deal and found that when i turn it to heat, it doesn't push the cable all the way back, but there is still about 15 mm of cable exposed. i can get it to go all the way in by turning the knob past the end of the turning cycle(hard to do and sounds/feels like it's going to break something). Has anybody had this problem and replaced the whole dial apparatus to fix it? if so, what are the exact parts i need and how much so they cost? i want this to work like it's supposed to.

Sometimes something (like the floor mat) will get pushe dup under the dash in that area and it will keep the litel door from moving. Then as you try to force teh knob it will strip it out.
I dont know what to tellyou man without being there to se it for my self.
