I am thinken about putting a custom turbo on a bone stock 6th gen accord 4cyl. Only problem is I dunno what I need to do the preb the engine and trany for the install. Any feed back as to what I need to do the engine and how much boost the stock tranny can handle b4 it go KABOOM? Also, Where I live, in the sumer it gets to be 100+ deg outside in the sun. Anything I can do to the radiator so that my car doesn't over heat with the turbo in it?

 

you got to build the internals (pistons rods etc...) if your going to run anything over 5psi. Do you have an AUTO or manual either way you got to get that rebuild (torqe converter) to handle the extra hp...

For cooling you'll need an a tranny cooler and i guess a big intercooler for your turbo which means you might need a new front bumper that would support your intercooler. You'll also might consider a turbo fan timer (you fan will run for 2-3 mins and cool your engine after you turn it off).

I believe ??accord98ex?? turbo his I4 and blew his motor after a few months, do a search.

 

I thought a stock motor can handle up to 10psi with proper managment. The kits i'v seen run 7-8psi without any engine work.

 

yeah 7 and 8 psi is okay but not for a daily driver... EXACCORD98 (white accord) blew his motor, running that.

If I were to run a turbo, I'd definitely build my engine first just to be on the safe side. That way, if I wanted, I'd have the option to run more boost OR I could just keep it on the low side.

 

I believe 7 PSI is "safe" for the F23. Remember that that engine was never designed for Forced Induction, so it would probably be a good idea to keep some money if you have to build the internals.

An f23 can handle 7-8psi fine, it can handle 10, if you don't tune it right it will go out. Alot of people who are boosting an accord are generally running 7-8psi daily driven.

proper tuning is essential, amount of boost is dependant upon that first, then the strength of the internals. You can blow an engine on 3psi if it's not properly tuned. go on amazon.com or some place, and get a book on turbo charging.....you'll find out tons more information there than any honda board. And it'll be right. Most people on boards tend to repost things that they've read in magazines and on here, and believe me, a lot of the stuff is blatently wrong or simple guess work. Not saying that there isn't a lot of good stuff either - don't get me wrong. Seriously though, get a book, you won't regret it.

Tuning is the most underrated thing when it comes with all motor and forced induction. Just remember to tune you motor according to your application.
