94 Akord is slightly incorrect for the gen 6. You only need to pull out the black or wood trimed insert in the center of the console. It's held in by 4 screws.

Argg! Haynes sucks! Get a Helm Book!

Okay grab the chrome piece and hold it by the shift boot material. Rock& PULL the chrome ring off the bottom of the shifter. Its not a very tight or robustly held clip. Rock the trim ring from 3rd to 4th while pulling down on it. It WILL pop free from the Factory shifter knob. It is likely held tight at first, but trust me it will come free. Take caution to not pull the leather from the trim ring. However, its only held in by a zip tie so it can be repaired easily if pulled free.

You could also try placing a small blade in between the trim ring and knob to pry it off.

If all else fails remove the knob by pulling the black center (opt. wood trim) section out of the console. 2 tabs in the front, 2 tabs in the middle near P-brake handle and opp. side, 2 in the back infront of the center storage armrest. Just grab the inside of the shift boot and cup holder and lift up to remove. Its held tight at first.

Go to H and A Accessories they have directions (PDF'S) for installing wood trim kit and shift knob use those to help you remove the material if need be.
