I understand that there is a safety thing so you can't put it into first from second, but why not from neutral?
Your pressure plate is going bad, even if the clutch itself is not sliding. The same happened to my Prelude. If you go just a little (don't completelly stop), the 1st gear goes ok, not? I could not get the 1st gear only at completelly stop. After my clucth has been replaced the 1st gear goes perfectly.
