To answer your original question, your jack is either too short or your stands too high. If you don't want to buy a new jack or stands, flappy188's instructions are excellent.

The only problem is that it takes extra time and I'm impatient...so I bought the jack that Bumnah posted. h:

The best compromise IMO is to get a regular hydraulic jack with at least a 20" max height for under $100 and drive up on 2x4s like CivicSiRacer said.
