oo is a good start
im a kinesthetic learner (learn by doing) so there probably wasnt a good place to start for me
i took a vb class 5 years ago and learned the basics from there
c++ is a bit harder but there are those that will argue that starting with vb causes you to develop bad programming habits
as long as you have a good teacher you should be fine
