All USDM G1's use the D16A1. This engine shares almost full interchangability between the browntop ZC. The 88-89's electronics are more along the line of the blacktop ZC, however still based on the browntop block.

In short, it is possible to rebuild a D16A1 as a ZC or replace it with a ZC alltogether.
