exactly, its all in the install... my old compustar wasn't a very good alarm by itself but the installation was perfect, very tough to get into.
but the system itself sucked, mediocre quality so im hesitating getting the ultra-expensive uber-long-range spread spectrum version they have now, but if you guys are interested in getting a good cheap system with the standard 1/4 mi range then there are tons of generic variants, and even one by DEI (hornet 55x?)
if you get one off ebay, autotoys, or other sites you can pick up the system itself for like $150, installation shouldn't run you more than $200 (nowadays, back when i got mine installed nobody would attempt installation for less than $300)
