Autolocks/Clubs only buy you time. Cutting the steering wheel/pedal defeats both devices, but it'll obviously take some time to do either. If you're parked outside at night, neither device is going to do you much good. Blocking your car in with another car (preferably in your driveway) is a pretty effective method.

Note that most car thieves use a tow truck of some sort.
