Anything is paintable with the right primer unless its going to get real hot. I've heard a lot of people say that plastic isnt paintable but its bullshit. It is possible that he didnt want to paint it because he cant warranty painted plastic though.

If a shop says they cannot paint side skirts, I would not really trust them and their work that much. True, the pieces are plastic and different than the body, but shops should know to use an adhesive promoter as well as a flex agent in the paint.

actually, stock sideskirts are made of the same material and stock front and rear bumpers. Just wetsand with 400 grit, and the after your finished, make sure you bondo all the little chips and stuff. painted skirts show nics and damage alot more then unpainted ones.

primer, then paint. unless your like white or black, red, I don't recommend doing them with walmart paint. You can try but it might waste your time. Milano Red is usually easy to come by...and white and black are a given...

but just get a bodyshop to do it, and have them add the flexing agent they add to the paint when doing the front and rear bumpers, they'll know what your talking about.

I did mine with primer, paint and clear coat from Pep Boys. Came out fine and no nicks as of yet. I sprayed a few more coats of clear by the wheels cause I knew it would get more abuse. So far so good for 6months.

I used krylon fusion, designed specfically for plastic for side skirts and eyelids. It came out much better than I thought it would, but if your not careful, you'll scuff them with your shoes getting in and out of the car. Make sure to use thin coats (30-40) and use rustoleum clear enamel for glossy finish and protectorant.

I used Honda OEM color matched Tafetta White from a PPG dealer. They made me 3 spray cans for like $30. I also used PPG primer, and PPG clear coat.

- Side Skirts, Bumpers, Rear Valance, Front Lip
- $50 in materials
- about 6 hours labor. Thats a lot of waiting between coats and A LOT of sanding/prep work

This was my DX. It costed a bit more and took a bit more time (double the time) because I painted the Lisence plate frame area, door handles, and side mirrors (not shown), along with the side skirts and bumpers (all black)

:chuckles:
