Default civic shoots out blue smoke at 4500+ RPMs

i was merging on the highway the other day, in 4th gear at about 4500RPM my car started knocking and shooting out blue smoke.

I got new spark plugs a year ago (NGK plugs and wires) and im not quite sure what's causing this. I think it goes away with premium fuel, but i wanted to ask if there coule be something busted with me engine?

I say, bad rings/valve seals. Do a compression test, and a leak-down test, and you will get your answer. Most garages will do this for you for under $100.

Blue smoke=oil
white smoke=coolant
black smoke=fuel

No. If it's at the full line, leave it. If it's over-filled, it would also cause what you described. You don't ever want to over-fill your oil because you will bust muy-importante oil seals. and begin leaking it. Also, the higer oil pressure can force oil into the combustion chamber where it will burn, and cause blue smoke like you described. It will also make the car feel like it has no power, and very quickly, you'll foul your plugs.

well the car felt pretty damn powerful in every other senario, in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. just 4th at speeds above 80 was where it started complaining.

over the summer i took my car to watkins glen for a driving class. had a blast as i drove it around the track there. there were a few occassions where i came insanely close to redline, and hell maybe i even hit it without noticing.

I hit redline every day...hitting it a couple times isnt gonna do any serious damage. Thats what the stock rev limiter is there for.

aren't honda's rev limiters fairly soft? you can redline and damage the engine.

an example of a hard limiter is the porsche 944. the damn thing turns off when you hit the limiter 3 times.

yeah but he only hit it or came close to it a couple times...and chances are if he "maybe hit redline" that he never came near the rev limiter, so i seriously doubt he did any engine damage that way.
