Default Cheap project car

I picked up a copy of a Honda mag (I dunno if Im allowed to say the name) yesterday while waiting on some tires (for my girlfriend's car) and read a story on Oscar Jackson and his beginnings. He did some really cool and impressive stuff with 70's Civics and CVCC's. Anyway, I've been thinking of getting a cheap car to mod so I can leave my driver alone. I was originally thinking of an AE86 or an S13 conversion but after reading about what he did, I think it might be fun to just play with an old Civic. What do you guys think? Anybody with any experiences with these cars?

are you going for looks or speed. If it's speed get an old school muscle car, 240 w/a det or ser/g20 and do a det.

I'm working on a project SE-R right now, i bought the car for 1800 then spent about 1000 for most the parts i need +450 shipped for a motor. After paint and everything i totalled up it's gonna be about a 5000 dollar car but it will run 12's, be able to autocross and look pretty sick.

I just sold a 'Vette and that thing was friggin expensive, so I'm gonna stay away from old muscle until I can afford it. Looks/speed, nah. I'm just looking for something fun. I guess I want a sleeper. Something that no one around here has. My Vette before I sold her...

Check out www.redpepperracing.com for info on tuning some of the older civics. Honestly, if you find one that has solid floor boards, you're good to go. I love em. Tiny wheel base, handle like go karts, and you can throw some side draft carbs on em, and make em scoot.
