cut the dude some slack.

sounds like you are just beginning to work on cars.

flywheel will help acceleration simpley cause it's less drag on the motor. it's worth it, but the downfallls are lots of work to install it, and as quickly as you rev up, just as quickly your drop revs.

overall it's worth it.

as for turbo stays away from 'em for a little while.

I just put in a 7 lb Fidanza flywheel in my homely little DX and I'm pretty happy with it. Mileage has gone up just a bit and acceleration has been helped as well. The downside is that the car is a bit harder to drive now (harder to get the car moving). I only replaced it because I had to replace the clutch and I knew I wanted to replace it at some point anyway. I figured that since I was in there I should just go ahead and do them both at the same time.

As for turbos, if I were you I'd stay away from them for now and do other things to your car. Turbos are very expensive and complicated, and if you don't know what you are doing you could blow your engine very quickly.

Have you done anything to your car yet? What is your car used for? If it's your driver, you don't want to over-do it as you could make it unreliable and inefficient if taken too far.

A light flywheel helps acceleration at all speeds your car can attain, it just speeds up the acceleration. Imagine you have a stick with a heavy weight on the end and you have to rotate it as fast as you can. It will be hard to do and you will be slow at it right? Now remove the heavy weight (say it's an 18 lb weight) and replace it with a lighter one (a 7 lb weight). Rotating the stick with the lighter weight will be easier now and you will be able to accelerate your spin faster now right? Same concept for your light flywheel...

Flywheels aren't cheap either. The lighter they are, the stronger they hafta be. Because they spin around at such high rates, they have to be built strong. Flyhwheels can crack easily if stressed too hard. I wouldn't get a new flywheel if i were you, because i hafta buy one, and take it to a shop to have it installed. But, itz up to u. Peace
You can just replace a flywheel, it's not that complicated. You just need to remove your tranny and clutch assembly and the bolts that hold down the flywheel.

A lightened flywheel revs and decelerates faster.

But if you drag race, keep in mind your flywheel needs inertia to transfer torque to the transmission, and a super-light flywheel will make it harder to launch. they make flywheels (like the ACT streetlite) that are lighter than stock, to help acceleration at speed, but have enough heft to launch the car properly.

I'm extremely happy with the ZEX 10lb. flywheel in my EX. Granted launches are kinda wimpy now, but then again I have no longer have any intention on drag racing with the car anymore. I've found AutoXing so much more fun. But anyways, if you do switch flywheels, you may as well replace the clutch with a STG2 or 3 ACT. I hated the stock clutch from day 1. But, that's just my opinion.

I have a 7.5 fidanza in my gsr. I fell all over myself trying to launch the thing at the track, but it's so much more fun to drive. Alot easier to kill though, no interia form flywheel + stg3 clutch takes some getting use to. oh yeah, and please tell me your car is manual.
