Default CV boots cracked open

hi, i have a 97 civic lx, when i did my oil change today, i just noticed that my driver side cv boot is cracked open all the way, and its making a sound now. do i have to replace the whole axle?

there are so many parts, like CV joint set, drive axle, CV axle, which one is it?

thx

Might as well get a rebuilt axle unless you're doing the work yourself.

Is there any grease left? If so, you might not need to replace the whole axle, just get a new boot and cv joint grease.

I've been running on one end of my drivers axle with no boot for like 18 months now...

I just did some clean out and re greasing on it and it stopped making the noises it was making after it had been that way for about a year. I suggest pulling the joint off and cleaning it out, putting fresh grease in it and re-booting it.

It's pretty easy to do.

Like "Fook" said...It won't damage anything else you can just clean it regrease.....

But I would just replace it...the whole axle....I just did it last month.....They are cheap and easy to do....
