Default Gas Mileage Problem

Alright...I got a AEM CAI and installed it a couple weeks ago. Before then I was getting around 260-280 miles on a tank. Ever since I installed the intake, my gas mileage has dropped tremendously to like 180-190. I don't know if it is something having to do with the CAI or what. Please help....

are you by any chance flooring it more often to here the sound of the intake? if so that could be the reason for some of the mileage drop :dunno:

No not really, not flooring it. I did at first but not anymore. I even tested that out on a tank of gas and still nothing. I was told you don't have to have a by-pass valve on the intake but could that do anything about gas mileage?

Hrm did you make sure all your connections are right? I know on my car there were one or two sensors that needed to be hooked up.

mine didn't have anything to hook up. i wouldn't think a cai would drop it down that much. i would put the stock intake back on and see if that fixes it.

i know that the intake would definetly make u lose gas mileage....if the engine is taking in more air, then it has to take in more fuel for the mixture to be right. i know that every horsepower bolt on i have on my car has made me lose a little bit of gas mileage everytime. but loosing about 100 miles to the tank seems kinda odd though.

Yea I thought it pretty odd myself and I know its sucking in ALOT of air cause the filter is LOUD. I went to the bank and heard the freakin filter sucking in air from the lobby...I figured it was normal for it to be that loud so I didn't worry about it but seriously is it suppose to be that loud or what?

Did you reset your ecu after you installed it? That could help.
