Tire Size?
well i was pretty much mostly leaning towards either the nitto NT-460 185/60/14, the falken Azenis 195/60/14, or the pirelli P6000 Sport Veloce 175/65/14... up until i heard ppl saying Nitto is a bad tire... well in my mag.. there are 2 articles where ppl fixed up their cars nicely and strapped on nitto 555's... is nitto a good tire?
which one of those tires that i listed would u guys recommend i get.. they will be going on a soon to be b18c1 hatchback..
also anyone know about the avid T4 from yokohama and how they perform?
thanks

i have no personal experience w/ most of those tires, but i think you shouldn't base ur purchase on what people put on their cars in magazines
u should upgrade to 15" rims/tires.. i think that's the best performance combo you can get, since 14" doesn't come in 205 width (i think) and they weigh less than a 16" combo

Nitto makes decent tires. Stay away from the NT450 though. The 555's are decent.
Falken Azenis are the best all around. Great performance at a cheap price.
Pirellis are good, but pricey.

ALL of them have worn extremely well. They have a high-silicone content that makes them extremely quiet in hard cornering, a stiff-as-bricks sidewall design that makes your crappy suspension give more than the tire (except for the 555R Extreme Drags which have recently been updated), and a staggered tread design that makes them very comfortable on the highway. They maintain excelent traction in ALL conditions and surfaces, though I've never pushed them off-road (I'm sure that's not one of your concerns). They have BY FAR been the best street-performance tire I've ever used. When I finally get my performance car running again, you can bet they'll be the brand that gets put back on it. I pulled a 1.7 60' time on 555R's and a 1.8 on 450's! That speaks for itself.
I've also had Toyo's Yoko's Pirelli's Kumho's and GoodYear, none of those hold a candle to a NITTO. Kumho's don't wear as long, and they're noisy. At least they're cheap. The Pirelli P7000's don't grip even as good as a Nitto 450 (the touring radial) and cost twice as much, the Toyo's slipped belts causing them to be a balancing nightmare, and the Goodyears didn't grip past 10k miles even though they were supposed to be a 40k mile tire, they got progressively shittier with age.
Please tell me what your idea of a performance tire is based on, and then remember that the guy starting this thread is trying to put rubber on stock 14"s. Performance tires are easier to find in larger-than-14" sizes anyway. A 65-series sidewall is SHIT for performance. Don't blame the tire if it sucks.

what's with the name calling? both me and civicsiracer are going from out personal experience? and to answer your question yes I am physically retarded. I had polio when I was 2 years old and could not walk til I was 4 years old again and now walk with a permanent limp.
I had a set of nitto 450s and they became rock hard after 20k miles. I replaced them after another 10K because they lost grip extremely easy. samething happened to my brother who i bought a set for when he had 2 flats at the same time. I didn't know better at the time and the nittos were very cheap.
i have no experience with the 555r but civicsiracer pointed out that they are the exception.
i've also had dunlop 8080e which were marginal at best and varioius michelines where decent specially the pilot SX (discontinued). right now i have the pilot sports on the 330i and they above average. I still prefer the toyo t1-s for their overall performance in the dry as well as light weight and excellent performance in the wet. very similar to the bridgestone potenza s-03.
i do agree that the P7000 aren't that great. they are average at best.
and once again IMHO Nittos (except maybe the 555R) are horrible tires.

NT-460 are touring tires not performance. also the nitto 555r are the exception.
never used avid T4 on any of my cars so i don't know.
what is your price range? that would narrow down the search really quickly.

If you think Nittos are great tire then keep using them, but you have to realize that I'm an autocrosser. I don't know ANYONE that runs Nittos and does well, ask around in the STS class (street tire class) and you will find 95% of the competitors use Azenis, 2% use BFG KDs, .5% use ES100s, and .5% use Kumho MXs. That might change next year when people realize they can get paid to run Kumho MXs due to contingency money.
So if you think Nittos are great tires apparently you haven't driven on ALOT of tires, or what you know is heresay. I compete on all these tires and know which ones work and ones that do not. I'm aiming to get those last .1 seconds - some people are not. You definitely will not gain much with Nittos.
Tires that wear well are usually not sticky, and tires that are sticky usually do not wear well. You have to give up something somewhere.
I've used approximately 15 different tires in the past 5 years alone trying to gain that extra cornering performance. I had:

since your in canada like me you'll have some trouble gettin nitto's any ways .So i got my falken azeinas in 14\205\60's from tiretrends.com shipped for $460 they work awesome for a slightly modded car!! oh they only took 4 buisness days from alberta and they where extreamly helpful. But they also have toyo T-1s's in 14's for around $600 shipped. Either which way they where extemly cheap n helpful i would suggest checkin them out.

I had a set of 555's on my original GSX wheels. I traded wheels and tires with somebody after 25k miles. Kumho Ecsta Supra's were next, and I thought they were miserable after the 555's. They didn't make it 25k.
I guess I had much better luck than you did with my 450's. I had 215/45's and they're 40k mile performance tires so you know they're not incredibly sticky to start with. They went 35,000 miles on my GS, then another 11,000 on my GSX with no problems. That included street driving in snow, ice, rain, sunny weather and a few dozen 14 and 15 second drag passes. I thought they cornered great on FWD and AWD. They died before their time because I picked up a log in my front passenger tire... and since I already had a new set of 225/50 555R's waiting at home...
I shed the 450's and went with the 555R's. My car is setup for drag now. The 555R's were rated for 10k miles. They're super-sticky, and the tread lasted exactly 10k miles for me and that was driven on the street/track. You're not supposed to drive these on the street, but I did without problems. Now mine are just right for drag racing. Nice and slick, and not very roadworthy anymore. DOT approved to get me into the class I race in. I have about 11k on them. I haven't had any balancing problems on any of the 3 sets of NITTOs I've ever had.
The trick with them if you're going to drive them on the street is to be meticulous about your tire pressure. You have to keep them inflated TO the pressure listed on the TIRE. Some of the tires need 47 PSI. You can run them lower on track day, but you have to keep them blown up for daily use or you'll have problems with them. The high silicone content that makes them soft makes the sidewalls weaker over time. If you run them low, and they will eventually step off the rim or blow out on you if they overheat.
I didn't mean to be an ass, I just didn't think NITTO deserves that rep. Maybe they're not right for everybody, but not everybody autocrosses. The tires you mentioned (CivicSiRacer) are awesome tires, but expensive, and how many of those come in 14's?
Maybe the 450's were a little hard later in their life, but that's when I swapped them to my AWD, so I guess I never felt it. They were a little too small for my GSX though and rough with a 45 series sidewall.
Mishma_Beef: Touring tires are comfortable long-wearing tires. That's the majority of what you're going to find for a 14" wheel. Try the usuals. www.victoriatire.com, www.tirerack.com, www.discounttiredirect.com. Other people probably know some other cheap places to get good tires, too. Go for what's in your price range and pick a few. Maybe someone else will have experience with the tires you can afford. Someone else mentioned that already.
Hopefully I've been helpful. Sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes.
