Can anyone give me the bolt torque specs for the oil pan bolts? My brother in PA has my Chilton because his engine has been hydrolocked and the broke a connecting rod. If so I'd appreciate it. Also, was anyone able to post an OEM Civic Service Manual? I've seen some topics on it, but none of the links work.

12 N-m (8.7 ft-lb)
- Use new O-rings when reassembling.
- Use liquid gasket, Part No. 08718 - 0001 or 08718 - 0003.
- Clean the oil pan gasket mating surfaces before installing.
- Apply liquid gasket to the recesses of the oil pan gasket.

That's straight out of my service manual. Torques are same for D16Y5, D16Y7, D16Y8, & B16A2.

Thanks for the specs. I didn't know there were o-rings on oil pan bolts, or do you mean the washers? Also, do you put gasket sealant IN the gasket groove? My brother is a mechanic and he said to put some sealant around the top of the pan where it will touch the block, but none in the groove.

The gasket can only go on one way. The groove must stay clean. Your brother is right. Follow his advice or you'll blow that sucker out in no time flat.

I'm not familiar with o-rings on any non-turbo oil pan gaskets. I have Viton O-rings on my stainless steel turbo oil return line on my GSX, but that's not the kind of oil pan gasket you're talking about, and also not an OEM part.

first there's a plastic cover(which is a bitch), then the exhaust, 2 or 3 brackets, and a small cover on the flywheel. just tighten by hand. i did it in 3 steps, starting in the center and criss crossing outwards. all you need is a socket set, a few wrenches, a breaker bar, a phillips (i think) screwdriver, and some sealent. and plenty of wd40 for the exhaust bolts.
