Default HX Civic owners!!

My gf & I are seriously looking at a '96 Civic HX for her, and were just wondering what trim they come in. i.e., what motor (sohc, dohc, vtec, non, etc., and what power options the cars came w/. What might be a better model to look for (besides the SI, I know that's the best) I'm a Prelude guy, so I know squat about civics......as of now....

I have an HX. It comes with a 1.6L 115hp vtec-e motor. It comes with power everything except sunroof and Cruise Control. And it is pretty light for a 6th gen coupe and it comes with light weight Enkei Rims. The vtec is geared towards fuel economy. And if you are doing a swap it is already wired for VTEC, which will make the swap a little easier.

how much hp does the hx have stock? are they even worth doing motor work on? 'cause if the price is right, I have an extra H23 motor we can swap into it. It'd be kinda fun to dabble w/ VTEC, though.

It comes stock with 115hp. It is worth keeping if you are interested in tuning a d-series motor. I have seen Dyno plots on an EX and an HX and the only thing that is holding the HX back is the tranny, the gears are so tall. Everytime you shift the HX you are taken out of the powerband. I plan on putting a EX Tranny, Head, IM, and Exhaust system. The breathing on the HX is very restrictive

Hell, if i had a B or H series to swap i would do it. But i dont, so ima go with the underdog D-series. With the proper tuning and knowledge you can make a d-series quick.Try dseries.org.

VTEC-E. Not nessesarily the performance VTEC, but it still makes good power for a D-Series.
