If the timing belt breaks the cam will stop moving before the crank and the valves will go thru the pistons, some parts may or may not be salvageable after that. I wouldn't try to find out if I were you, but I'm about to anyway since I just bought a prelude for $1 that had that happen. I can't wait to rip it apart and laugh at all the damage, be nice if the crank was useable tho.

That happened on my buddy's old lude. Just ****ed the head. The block/pistons were fine. If you need a spare b20a5 head, lemme know!

Actually the D16Y8 is the 127hp engine used in the 96-97 Sol Si and Civic EX. I believe the 125hp motor is the D16Z6.

Last months Honda Tuning magazine had a whole section on what happens when the timing belt breaks. The head is salvagable, but yer gonna pay money for machine shops labor and parts.

Your right. The Y8 is 127 hp and the Z6 is 125 hp. The motor in the Del Sol S is a D15y7 (1.5L non vtec 102 bhp @ 5900 rpm, 98 lb-ft @ 5000 rpm). I believe the engine code is stamped on the block. Check to see if I am right. This pic is a new D17A2 from the Civic EX, 127 hp as well and 1.7L, but the intake manifold and the throttle body is the same "style" as what you are talking about right?

Yup...it's always stamped right on the block; you can see it in Sol Man's pic below the far left spark plug, to the left of the heat shield over the header. I personally don't like the new D17A series motors used in the new Civics...I don't really know why, I just don't lol. I'm happy with my D16Y8.

well bro, I hate to tell you this, but the D16Y7 is the 1.6L SOHC Non-Vtec motor...I think you are 115 hp @ the crank...so that would explain why the 'scort gt is owning you...time for a D16Y8 swap...wanna buy mine with Intake and full racing exaust included? ;-)
