Default Civic swap question????

I have a dilemma, and need some advice/info

I have a very clean 96 Civic EX cpe. It has a blown engine......some water decided to go into the AEM(no bypass) and put a fingertip sized hole into the #4 cylinder.

Here is my dilemma. I do not want the car anymore, I need a 4dr automatic vehicle......family.....ect....ect......

I would sell the car for 4200.00 as is, or replace the engine(with stock d16y8) and sell for 5200.00. OR!!!!!

I could spend 2000.00 and get a b16a2.......or spend 2200 and get a h22a, or spend 1800 and get a b18b.

So here is the question........what do some of you think the car would be worth with those swaps in it, here is what i figure....

AS IS: 4000-4200

D16Y8: 5000-5200

B18B: 7500

B16A2: 8500

H22A: 10k

Am i smoking crack???? or are those in the range??

I have a friend that just sold his 96 CX hatch w B18C1 swap for just over 9000, that car had no options.....mine has it all, both cars are equally clean, mine has nicer paint(pearl white) his was basic red.

Please give me some advice........the car NEEDS to go fast...and I need to get this done......

Thanks in advance!!!

Mike

i dont see how you could put a $2200 engine in your car, and have the price raise $4-5,000...
just sell as is, you know what the problems are, and would not run into new ones with a new swap

as is. Unless you've got a perfect buyer, a car will always be worth more stock, even if it is busted. You probably wouldn't get back what you paid for the motor, and you definitely wouldn't get back enough to make the hassle worth while. The guy you know just got lucky and found someone who wanted a hot-hatch and didn't mind paying too much.

If you've got spare time and tools, however, you can pick up D-series motors for pretty cheap. But thats really the only swap that *might* be *somewhat* profitable--still a pain in the ass though. I'd sell it as is.

thanks for all the info...............i appreciate it.

I think i will sell it AS IS, and see what I can get.......HOWEVER...

there is one more option that I was offered. A straight up trade for a 93 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX, w many many performance upgrades.....it is a 12 sec car, 11's not out of reach, just needs the 550cc injectors installed, and turn the boost up......the car has a HUGE front mount(skyline....HKS) 16 g ported/clipped, all now turbo plumbing, thermal 3", and much....much more, the only downfall to the car is that it is a 2nd gen block, a 7 bolt, so I hear that they are worth less money, and are not as strong as the 1st gen 6 bolts...........dont know if anyone here is familiar with that setup...the only thing the GSX needs is a new paint job, it is mildly keyed...

so what do all here think the car is worth in blown condition??

i am on the mark with the 4000-4500 number, or less??

for the record the car has: thermal 2.5" cat back, stillen header, tokico illuminas, intrax sport spring(2") ACT XTSS clutch, ACT flywheel, upper/lower rear strut bars, front strut bar, newer pearl paint, carbon fiber dash kit, reverse el gauges, Viper alarm W window modules.........even more than i am thinking of.........wish i knew how to post a few pics, this way you all could look and tell me what i should ask...approximatly...

again, thanks for all your info!!!

well considering the cars kbb value in my area is above that, then yes, i would start the asking price up around 5500.00, the car is certainly worth that, maybe more..............just because the stock d16 engine is in there, does not mean it does not warrant the extra cost....that engine can be had for around 500.00 with low miles on it, so yea, i think an extra 500.00 on top of that is worth it.........car would be running/driving......other than the engine, the car is very tight, just an unfortunalte incident led me to this.......not to mention that I need a more "family" oriented vehicle, I have my toy, it can be seen in the top picture of my car on sounddomain, all the way in the back.....sorry folks, it is unfortunaltly the "enemy car" for all honda guys....including myself at one time....lol
