Heat shouldn't make it fall off, it should make it still more. If they did it right and got a good product then there should be no problems. Also the rubber spray is there to stay forever until you scrape it off with a chissel.

I like the idea about the trunk lid, but after that, I'd carpet it so it doesn't look nasty. If you do any of this, plan on having your car smell nasty for a few weeks.
