Default ATF? How much fluid?

Just needing to know info on an Auto (i know, flame me later)

How much fluid does a 93 civic auto take?
Do you check level with car running or off?
Do you check level with car Hot or cold?
Is there a certain fluid type that is better?

I'll answer as much as I can.

2.5 quarts, pretty much all Honda cars take that much, from Civics to TLs.

Use Honda ATF, supposed to be the best for Honda transmissions.

Whoa, you were actually down 2 quarts of ATF? That must have sucked, I drove a car down on ATF once, shifts delayed like a mofo. On the highway and punching the gas, the shift would hesitate for about 3 seconds, the bam, downshift and car would take off.

You're going to be replacing your transmission within the next 10,000 miles dude. I can't remember exactly, but you need 5.9 quarts if it is completely empty and like 3.x if you flush it. ATF won't help your VTEC "kick in."
