Default 1.6l SOHC

I am getting ready to start customizing my honda. It has the 1.6l sohc engine in it (I don't think it is the VTEC). Several people have told me that I should swap it out for the DOHC VTEC, others have said to work with what I have. I would like to get some opinions from people who have experience with both sides of the issue. Also, how can I find out exactly which engine I have? Thanks in advance for your input.

i believe your engine is the D16Y7, which doesn't have vtec and would be 1.6L. if i were you, and had the means, i'd probably swap to a b-series (dohc vtec). i mean, the y7 only has 106 hp stock, which isn't much to start with. you could do stuff to it, although i don't think there are very many good aftermarket engine parts for it. :dunno:

D16Y8 has vtec, the D16Y7 doesn't. Which model is your car? Year, tranny, trim?

well, that's what jdmfan was saying.....but it seems backwards to me. seems like he should actually have a d15y7. going by what is says his car is, he has a '96 civic lx.

btw, you can tell what it really is by looking on the block. should have it imprinted.

That's true. I haven't been able to find a great deal for it, but more than you might think. One item in particular is the new edelbrock turbo kit for the 1.6l vtec sohc. How different are the motors? This kit comes with the header and everything. I wonder if it might work on my engine? Any ideas? I have attatched a pic of the kit. It sure looks mean as hell!
To answer the other questions, it's an lx 4dr auto.

oh yeah, another question I had was what size wheels do most people put on a civic. I saw one yesterday with 17's and it didn't look like there was much room left. I was looking at 18's. Too big?
