Default Cam Gear question

I was wondering evertime I advance my timing my intake gets louder and idle is above 1300 RPMs, and evertime I retard it my intake gets quiet and my idle is shitty. Is this because when timing is advanced the engine sucks in more air decreasing RPMs and making the car faster at low end speeds. And if retarted the engine sucks is less air increasing RPM's and top end speeds. That is what I kind of figured out. Also would a cam gear make a difference on an automatic?

It would look cool.

As for your idle all over the place, everytime you move that dist. your moving the time when your spark plugs fire in relation to TDC. So if you retard it, it's sparking as the cylinder is going down, which = poopy idle.

the cam gear wont help much as stated above. If more advance tuning was being dont to the engine then a lighter gear or showier on might help. But overall with youre timing it wont help you out. By the way timing a car can be a bitch!:fawk:

I'd save money for a nice set of cams before investing in cam gears
