Default Fuel Filter

I've never done a filter change before so help me out h:

I loosened the bolt and gas started oozin out (lots). This is probably a really dumb question but am I suppose to cut the fuel off some how or do I just let it drain out (whatevers in there)?

a lot of gas should come out, it will stop eventually.

just prop the line against something so it doesnt fall below the tank and it will only lose like a pint or less.

Default What's up?

Aside from making sure the key is off, you should open the gas cap and let some of the pressure out. Ever hear it hiss before you fill it at the pump, that pressure you didn't let out just sprayed out from lines when you opened them. You'll be fine but make sure you clean everything up and keep the gas off the paint (can damage it). Seeya.

I think you are mistaken my man, that is vacuum in the tank that you are hearing. The emissons system uses a purge canister to get rid of the vapor in the fuel tank. Gas vapors are explosive, gas is not. So they suck all the vapors out of there and run it through a charcoal canister.

Don't forget to check for leaks when you get done. Also remember to use the new copper gaskets on the banjo bolt. Lastly, don't cross thread the hard line part of it. That sucks if you have to get that replaced. Just take your time and it's easy!!

Ah, your probably right. I swear in the Helm's manual it says to undo the gas filler cap to relieve the pressure before undoing the fuel filter. Oh well. Seeya.

precautions, just like they tell you to undo the battery like gas would ever ignite in that sort of environment.

I could see that, especially if it's a hot day and the car isn't running. The tank will pressurize.

You are actually supposed to pull the fuse for the fuel pump and start the car and run it out of gas when you replace the fuel filter. That's no fun though, you can't get as high while you are changing the filter. :loco:
