yeah they would.....just like patching a tire....the tires integrity is completely compromised and voids most of the implied warranties that go along with it, but it's better than paying for a new tire....no speed rating is guaranteed on a patched tire......it's just that jumping one will USUALLY not hurt anything, but it can.....any shock to the electrical system is potentially bad....not like we don't all do it anyway though...i'm not walking

Why have I heard so many stories that jump starting the battery can fry the computer on newer cars? didn't "dateline" run a show on this?

It can but it's more due to that fact that a power surge can happen, not the actual jumping. If you hook it up improperly or do it incorrectly you can have a power surge and blow out the ECU.

Thanks for the heads up, this might sound dumb but... how will I know if I've blown my ecu ??

when your car doesn't run and you can do everything properly but if the other person's car has a problem that causes a surge, then you can fry your ecu......and yes 151 proof....in my merkur owners manual, it gave step by step instructions on patching a tire....not in all manuals, but neither is jumpstarting
