For the maplights, they started to become available in the 1998 models, it may have been as early as 1997, but it was definitely not stock in the 1996 model Civic. If you remove the headliner there is already available space there to install one. Obviously, the headliner will have to be cut, as well as running wiring, but it will look and function like stock one both are done. The 98-00 maplights have one switch that turns on both sides so I installed a 1994 GSR maplight in mine because there are buttons that will control either side of the maplight. I used a dremel to cut out the area and used the wiring from the GSR. It will only need one wire because like the dome light screwing it in will ground the light.

Actually, I almost forgot I have the light. I had it in a car you are trying to put it in, but now have a different car. Now in the 5gen the backup manual crank for the sunroof is in the way of my doing this install again. I purchased a GSR maplight, but have yet to do anything with it. If you go to junkyard just remove this from the integra, more then likely it will be there as well as the white wire with the red stripe still attached to it. It shouldn't cost much to get. I have one, but don't have the wire for it. Whether you want the 98-00 Civic one or the 94-01 GSR, you should be able to get ahold of one cheaply.
What mounts? It is held in by two screws that are accessible once the light cover is removed.
